Callback
Privacy Policy
Last updated: July 30, 2026
Callback does not collect your data. There is no account, no sign-in, and no server. Everything you write, record, transcribe, or import stays on your device. We have no way to see your notes, your recordings, or your transcripts, and we don’t want to.
Who this applies to
This policy covers the Callback: Comedy Notebook iPhone app (“Callback,” “the app”), provided by Smonkey LLC (“we,” “us”). It explains what happens to information when you use the app. Spoiler: almost nothing leaves your phone.
Information we collect
None. Callback does not collect, transmit, sell, or share any personal information. Specifically:
- Your content, notes, tags, folders, setlists, audio recordings, transcripts, and anything you import, is stored only on your device (and in your own device backups; see below). It is never uploaded to us or to any third party.
- No accounts. Callback has no login, so we never ask for or store a name, email, or password.
- No analytics or tracking. The app contains no analytics, advertising, tracking, or third-party SDKs. We do not use cookies or device identifiers, and we do not track you across apps or websites.
- No usage data. We do not record how you use the app.
- No network calls. Callback contains no networking code at all. The app never opens a connection to us or to anyone else, so there is nothing for us to collect even by accident. The only things that reach the internet are ones you start yourself: tapping a link like this policy, Apple’s own purchase and iCloud services, and any file you choose to export or share.
Device permissions
Callback asks for the following permissions only to power on-device features. In every case the data is processed on your phone and is not sent to us or to anyone else:
- Microphone, to record your set, so you can listen back. Audio is saved locally on your device.
- Speech Recognition, to transcribe your recordings on your device, using Apple’s on-device speech recognition. Callback only ever uses the on-device recognizer; your audio is not sent to Apple’s servers for transcription.
- Camera, for “Scan a page”: you photograph a notebook page and the text is read on your device using Apple’s on-device text recognition. We never upload your photos.
- Photos: Callback does not ask for access to your photo library at all. If you pick an existing picture instead of taking one, iOS’s own picker hands the app only the images you chose, and nothing else.
The “smart” features, Smart Connections, transcript mining, and performance history, all run on your device using Apple’s on-device frameworks. Your jokes are never sent to a server to be analyzed. The Home Screen widget, the Lock Screen Live Activity and the “Record a set” Shortcut read only the app’s own recording state, stored locally on your device. Siri and the Shortcuts app are handled by iOS, not by us.
Purchases
Callback offers an optional subscription and a one-time purchase (“Callback Pro”) through Apple’s In-App Purchase. These transactions are handled entirely by Apple. We never receive your payment details (card numbers, billing address, etc.). Apple may provide us with anonymous, aggregated sales and subscription statistics through App Store Connect, which do not identify you. Your purchase history is governed by Apple’s Privacy Policy.
Storage and backups
Your Callback data lives in the app’s private storage on your iPhone. If you use iCloud Backup or back up your iPhone to a computer, your device backup may include Callback’s data. That backup is created and protected by Apple, under Apple’s terms, not ours. Callback does not run its own cloud sync.
When you use Export (or Restore from Backup), you choose where the file goes (Files, iCloud Drive, AirDrop, etc.). That’s entirely under your control; we never see it.
Moving a set’s audio to iCloud (Pro, and only if you ask)
Recordings are the big files, so Callback Pro can move one set’s audio off your phone into your own iCloud, in the app’s private folder there. It happens one set at a time, only when you choose it in Storage › Recordings, and never automatically. That file then sits in your iCloud account under Apple’s terms; we have no access to it and no way to read it. Playing the set downloads the audio back to your phone. Only the audio file moves: your notes, setlists and transcripts always stay on your device.
Your control over your data
Because everything is on your device, you are in control:
- Export your notebook at any time to a file you keep.
- Delete any note, recording, or import, or delete the app, to remove the data from your device. Deleting the app removes its on-device data (your separately saved exports and device backups are not affected).
Children’s privacy
Callback is intended for a general audience and is not directed to children under 13. Since the app collects no personal information from anyone, it collects none from children.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we’ll update the “Last updated” date above and post the new version at this URL. Because the app collects no data, we don’t expect material changes.
